Soprano Jessye Norman Has Passed Away

Sad news from New York – Dramatic Soprano Jessye Norman has died.

Norman was well known for her dramatic voice and presence on the stage, appearing on the most famous opera houses and concerts halls around the world.

Born in Augusta, Georgia, Norman was active mainly in the years 1970-1990 as a dramatic soprano, after which she moved to Mezzo-Soprano opera roles, recitals and additional genres like soul, religious music and Jazz.

In later years she spent much of her time giving masterclasses and being involved in education initiatives such as the Jessye Norman School of the Arts, which she founded in 2003 in her home town of Augusta, Georgia.
