Christoph von Dohnányi – The Complete Decca Recordings

Christoph von Dohnányi’s Cleveland years with Decca are showcased in this 40-disc box set. Beyond Mozart and major romantic works by Schumann (all symphonies), Mahler (symphonies 1,4,5,6 & 9), and Bruckner (symphonies 3-9) – the set features insightful performances of 20th-century masters such as Varèse, Ives, Schoenberg, Bartók and Lutosławski. Joshua Bell is the soloists in the superb renditions of Brahms and Schumann’s violin concertos. The box set includes authentic jackets, session photographs, and an insightful booklet text authored by Andrew Stewart.

Bruckner: Symphonies Nos. 0–9 – Markus Poschner

This 18-CD box set includes all the symphonies composed by Bruckner in his lifetime, on most versions and revisions, according to Naxos. And so we have 3 versions of both symphonies No. 3 & 4, two versions of the 8th, and so on. Markus Poschner conducts the Linz Bruckner Orchestra and ORF Vienna Radio Symphony Orchestra.

Belcea Quartet – The Alpha Classics Recordings

This box set of 15 CDs compiles all the recordings made by the Belcea Quartet for Alpha / Outhere Music. This anthology showcases exceptional performances of works by eight different composers, along with renowned guests such as Tabea Zimmermann, Jean-Guihen Queyras, Till Fellner, and Piotr Anderszewski. The strongest CDs in this impressive set include Beethoven and Janáček’s complete string quartet. Excellent recording quality all around as well.

Charles Ives – The RCA and Columbia Album Anthology

Sony Classical releases a comprehensive 22-CD box set of Charles Ives’ works, in celebration of the composer’s 150th anniversary year. The box includes, according to Sony, 83 works that previously haven’t appeared on CD. Orchestral works, including the Symphonies, are presented here by John Kirkpatrick, William Masselos, Leonard Bernstein, and Eugene Ormandy. It also features Ives’ songs and chamber works, showcasing his diverse musical style.
