The UK based Magazine has just reviled his annual list of “category winners” for the Gramophone Awards 2018 ceremony, to be held on September 13.
Among this year’s winners: the Pavel Haas quartet took their usual prize for their Dvorak release in the chamber music category, Christian Tetzlaff and Hannu Lintu won the concerto category, for their exciting Bartok’s two violin concertos release.
As we hoped (But didn’t predicted), François-Xavier Roth’s sensational performance of Ravel’s Daphnis et Chloé won the orchestral award, beating the favourite Teodor Currentzis and his performance of Tchaikovsky’s ‘Pathetique’ Symphony.
More winners include Arcadi Volodos for his latest Brahms recital for Sony, surprising us by moving ahead of another Gramophone favourite – Murray Perahia’s release of Beethoven’s ‘Hammerklavier’ and ‘Moonlight’ Sonatas, which we reviewed here.
The Opera prize went to a not-so-often recorded piece, Berlioz’s ‘Les Troyens’, under the direction of John Nelson (Erato).
You can see the full list of category winner here.
The winner of the most important prize of all, the “Gramophone record of the year award 2018”, will be announce in the ceremony on September 13, along with other prize announcements such as the “lifetime achievement award”, who’s recipient has yet to be disclosed.
Who do you think will take home the recording of the year award? Tell us in the comments.
